J. N. Harriman & Company Limited is one of the oldest business firms in Trinidad and Tobago having been in existence for some 129 years. Its history began with Charles Hugon, a French immigrant who established himself as a general merchant and ship chandler on Henry Street, Port of Spain. Harriman's became a registered company in 1873, and in 1885 it was purchased by Karl Boos.

In 1920 Carl August Boos acquired the company from his father, and further developed Harriman's interests in the agency/distribution business, shipping and agriculture. In 1932, Errol Herman Boos, a mining Engineer, upon the death of his father Carl, became Managing Director of J. N. Harriman & Company Limited. In 1983, Robert C. Boos, after the untimely death of his brother John, was appointed Managing Director and is now the owner of the business. Harriman's today is a medium-sized company currently employing some 80 persons throughout the organization. Essentially, Harriman's is in the import and distribution business with offices in Port of Spain, San Fernando and Tobago.

PHOTOGRAPHIC DIVISION

Operating three full-service photographic stores, in Port of Spain, San Fernando and Tobago, complete with mini-labs, our Photographic Division is second to none. We are a Photo Expert Centre selling a complete range of film, cameras, batteries, frames etc., offering all the complementary services such as enlarging, framing and photo restoration.

Harriman's is a member of the Photographic Marketing Association International with trained and qualified staff at all locations, affording us the opportunity to offer our services to both amateur and professional photographers alike.

PHARMACEUTICAL DIVISION

Harriman's has been in the pharmaceutical business for over forty years, representing companies such as Schering AG, Bayer Veterinary Products, Beiersdorf AG, Clay-Park Labs, Med-Traders of Canada Limited, Ranbaxy Laboratories and American Ortho-Med, Inc. Abbott Laboratories (Puerto Rico) Inc. has recently been added to the list of companies we represent. With our trained sales personnel we distribute to drugstores throughout Trinidad and Tobago, providing our customers with quality service every time. Two teams or trained medical representatives operate from our offices in Port of Spain along with four salespersons. This department is managed by Ms. Merlyn Assam who has been with the company for over thirty years.

Our pharmaceutical stocks are kept in air-conditioned warehousing in Port of Spain and all deliveries made from there.

OFFICE EQUIPMENT / STATIONERY

Harriman's is very proud to represent the A.T. Cross Export Company, one of the leading producers of fine writing instruments in the world, and Amano Time Recorders Inc., manufacturers of time management equipment and payroll systems.

Located in the heart of the commercial sector in Port of Spain with a second location in San Fernando, this division also supplies a complete range of stationery products to both the wholesale and retail trade. This department also offers conventional identification card services as well as the new digitally produced type to many major corporations and the Government.

ENGINEERING

Harriman’s Engineering is one of the leaders in supplying equipment and spares to the quarrying industry along with gabion baskets, reno mattresses and geotextile material to the construction industry. As the distributor for Johnson Diversey products we are also a major supplier of industrial chemicals to the hotel, food and bottling industries in both Trinidad and Tobago. We also represent ARO pneumatic tools whose range of products we both sell and service. A recent addition to the list of companies with whom we are proud to be associated is FESTO. Their range of activities comprise automation through pneumatic components and systems and training in industrial automation.
